Learning at home, as well as at school, is really important.  At home children can practise the skills they have learnt at school, which will help them become more confident in their learning.

Your child will be set a variety of Homework tasks – this may include practical activities to reinforce mathematical concepts (e.g. weighing ingredients for a cake or adding up the shopping as you go!), there may be a maths game to play with the family, or some maths problems to solve, or times tables to practise.  There will be spellings to learn, or practise reading some key words; there may be some writing to complete or comprehension tasks; or there may be some research to be undertaken or a model to be made to support the term’s theme learning.

As you know, sharing and reading a book with your child is essential.  Please read with your child / to your child / and listen to them read a variety of reading materials – fiction, fantasy, comics, magazines, newspapers, non-fiction books – and discuss with them the content.  Ask them questions about what they have read, make predictions about the next part of the story and discuss the pictures.

While homework certainly helps to optimise children’s learning – pupils are expected to take responsibility for taking it home, completing it and returning it to school. All homwork is on the website, click on your child's class homework link above.  Parents, please do not do your child’s homework for them!  Please do encourage them to complete it to the best of their ability – and ask them to share it with you as they complete it or after the task is finished.  Please try to provide a quiet place for them to work and help them to organise their time so home learning isn’t left to the last minute and is completed in manageable chunks.  If your child is struggling to complete their homework, please see the class teacher as help will always be at hand!

Thank you for the ongoing help and encouragement you give to your children.
